James Groff

Former Stockton resident James Groff, 77, passed away on May 12, 2026, at the Kansas Soldiers' Home in Fort Dodge.
He was born on January 29, 1949, in Hays, Kansas, to Albert and Deloris (Dawson) Groff.
He joined the Army and fought for two years in Vietnam. James was a Purple Heart recipient. After his discharge, he moved to Hays and married Linda Lee Walker on March 2, 1991, in Plainville. She preceded him in death.
He enjoyed fishing and going to casinos.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and siblings, Mary Katherine Gilbert, Victor, and Robert Groff.
He is survived by children, Jamie Marie, Cora, and Millie Jo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Alberta Rogers, Regina Fahl (Donnie), Becky Gerhardt, Gary Groff, and Ron Groff (Danelle); and many nieces and nephews.
There are no services at this time. There will be no visitation as cremation will take place. A burial in Stockton, Kansas, will be held at a later date.
