Dr. Wanita Marie “Noni” Bice-Washington, 65, passed away on February 12, 2026, in Longview, Texas. A devoted educator and cherished family member, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, empathy, compassion, intellect, and unwavering dedication to those she loved and served.
Born on April 6, 1960, in Stockton, Kansas, Wanita was the daughter of Richard and Delores Bice. Her early years in Kansas laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, service, and faith in the power of education to transform lives.
Wanita earned her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University. She continued her academic journey by obtaining a master’s degree in education from the University of Kansas, followed by a second master’s degree in special education from Concordia University. She ultimately achieved the pinnacle of her academic career by earning a Doctorate in Education. Her commitment to inclusive learning and equitable educational opportunities defined both her studies and her professional life.
Throughout her life, Wanita was known for her loving spirit, kindness, generosity, humor, and intelligence.
Education was not merely her profession but her calling. She dedicated herself to empowering students, advocating for inclusive classrooms, and creating environments where every learner felt valued and capable.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Davion Washington; her brothers, John Bice of Humble, Texas, and Rick Bice of Stockton; her cherished grandchildren, Cameron Journet, Caleb Davis, Channing Johnson, Celincia Washington, and Cailani Stephens; and a host of dear friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives she profoundly impacted.
Wanita was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Delores Bice; her husband, John Washington; and her son, John David Devon Washington.
Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched— as an educator who inspired growth and as a family member whose warmth brought comfort and joy. May her legacy continue to inspire, and may her memory bring peace and solace to all who knew and loved her.
