SPOTLIGHTING THE YEAR…1968
* And So They Say: Kenneth Buss: “We haven’t been any place for so long that when we do go, it’s big news.” Joe Bedore: “I’m just a baby. When night comes, I want my bed.” Jo Stewart: “I haven’t had to do my own housework for so long that it’s about to kill me now.” Clark Stocking: “Stockton certainly looks nice with all the campaign posters and stickers disposed of.” Bertha Morel: “I’m going to get all my out-of-town visiting done before winter gets here; as they say, it will be a long, cold one.”
* A collision at the intersection of North First and Walnut sent Brent Clayton and Kerry McCue to the Health Center for treatment for a number of severe cuts. The accident occurred when Albert McCue drove south in his 1961 Chevrolet station wagon, accompanied by his son, Kerry. Brent Clayton, driving westbound and accompanied by his sister Joy, apparently entered the intersection at the same time. After the impact, the 1966 Chevy owned by Brent’s father, Reverend S. B. Clayton, jumped the curb by the courthouse and struck the parked 1965 Plymouth owned by Kenneth Buss. Both Brent and Kerry remained at home from school after the accident. Joy, who was the heroine of the recent accident in which her parents and another brother were injured, struck the windshield and received a bump on her forehead but went on to school.
* The Buddy Poppy sale, sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary in Stockton and Woodston, was quite a success. Approximately 1,200 poppies were sold by 29 boys and girls. Prizes were given to the children for the amount of money collected. Winners in Stockton were Judy Anderson, Tammy Atwill, Diane Anderson, Cindy Farr, and Becky Harper. Woodston winners were Donovan LeFort, Dwight Vanderlip, and Billy Delaney.
* Two members of the Stockton football squad were hospitalized during the last week of the season. Jackie Gager had tendons torn in his knee during the B team game. Bobbie Saunders, a freshman, received a broken shoulder at the close of football practice. It was an intricate break. A cast was put on, and after Bobbie was released from the hospital, he was confined to his bed since he had the flu.
* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: A true sadist is a skinny hostess who delights in serving calorie-loaded desserts to her plump friends.
