The Stockton Tiger Sharks showed their bite in the Championship Swim Meet at Imperial, Neb., on Saturday, July 13, bringing home seven first-place finishes.

Thirty-six swimmers earned a trip to the season finale by placing in the Top 12 in Individual Events or Top 6 in Relays from the four Qualifying Meets held the previous week. Of those qualifying for the meet, two Sharks, Jax Miller and Hudson Horn, could not attend. Both boys, along with Brooks Balthazor and Rhett Riffel, were members of the 8 & Under 100Fr Relay Team. The Relay was seeded second in the league.

Trent Look, who competed in the 8 & Under age group, continued his dominance throughout the season, winning three golds–two in Individual Events—one in the 25 Butterfly and another in the 50 Individual Medley—and one in Relays in the 100Fr. His fourth event, the 25 Short Free, earned him a second-place finish.

“Trent was going for the league record in his 25 Butterfly and missed it by .60 hundredths of a second,” said Tiger Shark Coach Daphne Plumer.

The record was 21.89, and he swam it in 22.29.

Trent won the 50 Individual Medley and dominated the event by six seconds from the second- place competitor.

Along with Look, the 100Fr Relay Team’s other gold-winning members included Jevin Rush, Merrick Oller, and Grandon Mongeau.

Hallie Gallaway also had a swim season to remember, winning the 25-yard Freestyle after being ranked first.

Gallaway was also ranked first in the 25 Butterfly entering the meet and finished third in the event. She was ranked fourth in the 50 Freestyle and won third place.

Another standout swimmer for the Sharks, Lyla Oller, competing in the 14 & Under Division, brought home two League Championships in two events— the 200 Long Free, where she was ranked first—and in the 200Fr Relay along with Remy Muir, Jayana Creighton, and Meredith Gasper.

Jayana and Meredith also received two golds for being a part of the two relay teams.

The seventh first-place finish for the Sharks was in the 18 & Under Relay Team of Jayana Creighton, Meredith Gasper, Jalia Creighton, and Shae Yohon. Seeded second in the league going into the meet, the girls saved their best for last, capturing the gold in the event.

“We had seven events get first, and several placed better than where they were seeded, so I’m proud of all of them,” stated Plumer.

“It was a long and very hot day,” she added.

Corbyn Glendening, competing in the 12 & Under Division, surprised her opponents in the 100 Individual Medley. Corbyn, seeded 10th, swan her way to an impressive second-place finish.

Coach Daphne Plumer gives her assistants, Claire Plumer and Tierra Yohon, a lot of credit for the successful season the Sharks had.

“These two were there for these kids every day at practice and the meets,” she stated.

“They were amazing helpers,” she concluded.

In preparation for the Championship Meet, Plumer had the swimmers drag swim, which is swimming in their sweats, to begin their final practice of the season.

The Tiger Sharks’ hard work every morning throughout the season paid off, making the Stockton community extremely proud.
