Suspect captured after western Kansas bank burglary

SCOTT COUNTY—The Scott City Police Department reported a burglary on Thursday morning, June 13th, at the First National Bank, 501 Main in Scott City. Authorities have taken a suspect into custody. Although the suspect did not get away with money, several other items were taken. Police thanked everyone for sharing the information on the burglary on social media and for keeping an eye out for the suspect. (Hays Post)

Two Kansas women hospitalized after pickup/car crash

RUSSELL COUNTY—The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Nissan Titan driven by Joy L. Torrez, 63, Great Bend, was westbound on 15th Street Road approximately three miles north of Interstate 70 late Saturday morning, June 15th. The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of 200 Boulevard. The pickup collided with a 2018 Chevy Malibu driven by Allyson Jayna Kaiser, 19, Great Bend, in the northwest corner of the intersection. After impact the pickup traveled in a northwest direction, rolled one time and came to rest in the ditch. The car also came to rest in the ditch. EMS transported Torrez to Russell Regional Medical Center. A private vehicle transported Kaiser to the hospital in Great Bend. Torrez was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP. (Hays Post)

Body of missing three-year-old found in Kansas waterway

BUTLER COUNTY—Deputies with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 12000 Block of Southwest Prairie Creek Road just outside of Andover after a report of a missing three-year-old on Saturday, evening, June 15th, according to Undersheriff Damion Cundiff. First responders found the property to be large with a combination of timber and waterways. Multiple agencies responded to help with the search including water rescue from the Augusta Department of Public Safety. The initial report indicated the boy was playing outside the residence while an adult was present and doing yard work. The child wandered off but was still believed to be on the property. A search of the area included the water, drones, divers and K9s continued until after 3:00 a.m. on Sunday. Just after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, shortly after the search began again, the body of the boy was found in a waterway not far from the residence on the property. Authorities believe it is an accidental drowning. There is no suspicion of foul play. The child is a family member of the residents, but not their child. (Hays Post)

Beautiful new mural for Kansas grain elevator

MCPHERSON COUNTY—The Inman Museum Association is excited to announce the commissioning of their new mural project on the iconic grain elevator east of Highway 61 when entering Inman. This significant project is part of a broader initiative to celebrate Kansas heritage with 150 years of Turkey Red Winter Wheat and the settlers who brought it to Kansas. Mindy Allen of Mindy’s Mural, a renowned muralist based in Junction City, is painting the mural. As for her vibrant and intricate designs, Mindy’s Murals transforms public spaces into visual masterpieces that reflect the unique spirit of their locations. “We are thrilled to bring this project to life,” said Ron Regehr, representative of Inman Museum. “The mural will serve as a landmark for Inman history and future aspirations as we embark on a new 15,000 square foot facility that will share the stories of custom cutters from the Inman/Buhler area and across the Great Plains. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate our heritage and welcome travelers passing though the area.” (Hays Post)

One person hospitalized after home explosion in SW Kansas

FINNEY COUNTY—Just after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15th, the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched to the report of an explosion at 802 West Fair Street, Garden City, according to a media release. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one home that had significant damage due to an explosion with a large debris field surrounding the site. One victim was treated and transported by Finney County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to St. Catherine Hospital. Black Hills Energy was dispatched to the scene to shut off the gas supply in the affected area, and the City of Garden City Electric Department was dispatched due to the downed power line. The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified of the explosion and has been requested to assist with the investigation. No damage estimates are known at this time. While the investigation is being completed, Fair Street will be closed between 9th Street and 11th Street, and 10th Street will be closed between Fair and Hamline Streets. (Hays Post)
