Darrell Lee Hartzler
1942 - 2025
Darrell Lee Hartzler, age 83, Broken Arrow, Okla., passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
He was born June 20, 1942, in Hays, Kansas, the beloved son of Wilbur Lawrence Hartzler and Pauline Carlson (Hartzler-Glendening).
Darrell grew up with a strong spirit, a kind heart, and a love for both family and faith that would define his life.
From his earliest days, Darrell’s passion for sports was undeniable. Whether on the basketball court in high school and college or cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks, he embraced the joy, camaraderie, and competitive spirit of the game. This enthusiasm has been passed down to his children and grandchildren, leaving behind not only a love for the sport but also a love for shared traditions.
More than anything, Darrell’s greatest devotion was to his faith. He was a man of profound generosity and compassion, always ready with a listening ear, an open door, a warm meal, or heartfelt prayer. His kindness knew no bounds, and he touched countless lives with his unwavering spirit of service. His generosity and heart for helping others extended far beyond his community. He traveled on mission trips to the Philippines, where he joyfully shared the message of God’s love through teaching, fellowship, and the formation of lifelong friendships.
Darrell’s legacy is one of joy, service, and steadfast devotion. To his family, he was a rock: a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a cherished brother, a loving uncle, and a faithful friend. To his community, he was a steady and unwavering light.
Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. Darrell’s story doesn’t end here; it continues in every person he inspired, every heart he touched, and every prayer he whispered on behalf of others. His memory will live on as a constant reminder of what it means to love deeply, serve faithfully, and live joyfully.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are: his first love, Martha Molene Hartzler; sons Kirt Hartzler (Susan), and Chris Hartzler; step-children: David Ryman (Cheryl ), Harold Ryman, and Duanda Ryman; siblings: Duane Hartzler (Darlene), Everett Hartzler (Kathy), and Shirley Berry (Tom); and grandchildren Austin Hartzler and Mackenzie, JC Hartzler and Danielle, Paige Cannon and Brett, Tyler Hartzler, and Haley Hartzler; great-grands Andi Grace Hartzler, and Lainey Shai Hartzler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife, Patricia Ryman-Hartzler.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m., at Southpark Assembly of God (under the direction of Glory to God Church), 5850 S. Elm Place, Broken Arrow, OK, 74011.
