Two hospitalized after motorcycle crash into barbed wire fence

LOGAN COUNTY—The Kansas Highway Patrol reported on Tuesday, June 16th, at 6:30 p.m. in Logan County that a 2025 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Trike, driven by Curtis D. Kooy, 74 of Las Animas, Colorado, was northbound on US 83, thirteen miles south of US 40. Strong crosswinds caused the motorcycle to cross the centerline, enter the east ditch, and up the embankment. The vehicle continued through the barbed-wire fence and came to rest. EMS transported Kooy and a passenger, Katherine A. Esposito, 64, of Phoenix, Arizona, to the Logan County Hospital in Oakley. They were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, according to the KHP. (Hays Post)

Body of missing Kansas man found behind grain elevator

DICKINSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities have positively identified the body of a man found in Dickinson County. On Friday, June 5th, police began searching for a man identified as 26-year-old Dominick Campbell of Abilene, who was last seen on June 3rd, according to a media release from the Abilene Police Department. Deputies with the Dickinson County Sheriff's office were called to an area in the 200 block of West 4th Street in Solomon, after a report of a dead body. First responders found the body of a man behind a former grain elevator. The victim has been identified as Dominick Campbell, according to police. No foul play is suspected, according to police. Hays woman arrested on alleged charges of theft from check-cashing

HAYS—A 28-year-old Hays resident, Reyna Montoya, was arrested on Monday, June 8th, on allegations of theft by deception. According to preliminary information from Hays Police Department Lt. Brandon Wright, officers were dispatched to Check Into Cash in connection with an alleged theft investigation. Upon arrival, Montoya was cooperative with officers, Wright said. Wright said the investigation was brought to law enforcement by upper management at Check Into Cash. He said that without the involvement of management, the alleged thefts might not have been discovered at that time. Wright said Montoya allegedly used her position within the company to access customers' credit lines to steal money from customers. Hays PD investigators estimate the total loss to be about $26,000.00. The alleged activity is believed to have occurred between March and June of this year. (Hays Post)

Lightning strike blamed for fires in southwest Kansas

CLARK COUNTY—Fire crews were busy in western Kansas on Tuesday, June 16th. According to a social media post, Ashland Kansas fire crews responded to a grass fire near Clark State Fishing Lake. On the way, crews were diverted to two other lightning-strike fires. All of the fires were extinguished, and there were no injuries reported. The Minneola Ford County, Comanche County, Fowler, and Englewood Fire Departments assisted in fighting the fires. (Hays Post)
