Wichita area pharmacist accused of stealing drugs from employer

MAIZE—A 33-year-old pharmacist from suburban Wichita has been indicted for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from his former employer for his personal use. The United States Attorney's Office in Kansas said Logan Marshall Abbott of Maize is charged with one count of acquiring and obtaining a controlled substance by deception or subterfuge. He's accused of using his position as a pharmacist to illegally acquire amphetamine (Adderall), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), methlphenidate (Ritalin), and oxycodone from his employer without authorization. The Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ola Odeyemi is prosecuting. (KAKE NEWS)

Missing Kansas man found deceased

CHASE COUNTY—Just after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th, sheriff's deputies were called to the Dollar General at 13 South Walnut in Cottonwood Falls, for a welfare check on a man in a vehicle, according to a social media report from the Chase County Sheriff. First Responders found the sole occupant of the vehicle, later identified as 31-year-old Austin Barnes, was deceased. Barnes had been listed as a missing person from Topeka. The cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy was scheduled, according to the sheriff's department. (Hays Post)

Kansas teen driver, two adults hospitalized after pickup/semi crash

SCOTT COUNTY—The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Prostar semi driven by Federico Tonche, 52, Dallas, Texas, was southbound on U.S. 83 just north of Kansas 4 following a 2007 Nissan Titan driven by Porter S. Geist, 17, Scott City. The semi passed the pickup in a No Passing Zone. During the pass, the pickup turned left into the passing semi at a driveway approach. After impact, the semi overturned onto its driver's side and came to rest facing northwest across both lanes of U.S. 83. The pickup overturned in the west ditch facing northeast on its wheels. EMS transported Tonche, Geist, and a passenger in the pickup, Jaime De La Rocha Cruze, 28, to the Scott County Hospital. All three were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP. (Hays Post)

Kansas woman dies after SUV crash and fire

PHILLIPS COUNTY—A Kansas woman died in an accident just after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28th, in Phillips County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2023 Subaru Forester driven by Nancy Dee Vap, 58, Prairie View, was northbound on West 1300 Road just south of West Prairie Road, approximately one mile south of U.S. 36. The SUV traveled off the road into a west ditch, vaulted over a concrete culvert, and caught fire. Vap was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Hugunin Family Funeral Home. The KHP did not have seat belt usage details. ( Hays Post)
