Tragedy strikes our small community once again
The Stockton community is shocked and saddened to learn that another tragedy has hit this close-knit town—this time Thursday evening, September 3, just southwest of Stockton.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at approximately 7:12 p.m., Alec P. Hrabe, age 57, Stockton, was driving his 2004 Chevy Silverado eastbound on K Terrace (one mile south of Stockton and 1.4 miles west of US183 Highway) when he lost control on a curve and entered the north ditch. The Silverado Hrabe was driving then hit a washout, slid sideways and rolled onto its side, ejecting him.
Hrabe was pronounced dead at the scene.
Many people in and around the Rooks County area know the Hrabe family, as Alec is the son of the late Doyal and Dorothy Hrabe, who ran the Coast to Coast store for many years in Stockton.
Alec worked as maintenance/custodian for USD 270 in Plainville. He also had served as a firefighter and Fire Chief for Stockton.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria, of the home; his two children: Jeremy Hrabe and Jordan Carpenter, both of Stockton; a stepson, Brock Kolar of Woodston; a sister, Gina Muir of Stockton; and a brother, Chris Hrabe of Salina; as well as other family and friends.
We ask that you keep this family in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
