The Rooks County Historical Society and Museum in Stockton (921 South Cedar) cordially invites the community to join them in a fun afternoon of poetry reading, refreshments, music, and friends on Sunday, December 10th, at 2:00 p.m.

Cowboy Poetry will be featured and it embodies the work and grit of the American Cowboy. The Historical Society is excited to showcase this nationally recognized form of talent at this gathering during the Christmas season.

The three guest presenters are: Ron Wilson: Wilson is a working rancher, rural development specialist, and cowboy poet. He grew up on the Lazy T Ranch near Manhattan and writes a biweekly cowboy poetry column titled “Cowboy Up. “He also hosts a monthly online “Cattle Trails Showcase” video program. In 2022, Wilson was inducted into the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame as a cowboy entertainer. He aims to write and present an original, customized poem for every group he performs for.

Don Rowlison: Rowlinson is a Sheridan County native and Hoxie High School graduate. He is a fifth-generation Kansan with ancestry in the state dating back to 1857. As a cowboy historian, Rowlison was inducted into the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2009. He is semiretired but works part-time for the Friends of the Cottonwood Ranch.

Jeff Davidson: Davidson is from Eureka and is a man of many hats. Davidson is a cowboy, musician, poet, historian, watershed specialist, rangeland plant identification expert, ranch manager, and a former Extension educator. He has performed music for over 30 years and, in 1985, became the entertainer for the Flint Hills Overland Wagon Train, serving in that capacity for 24 years. He was a 2013 Kansas Cowboy Poetry Contest winner and now uses his original works as well as vintage songs of old to lead audiences through the history of “Winnin’ the West.”

And that’s not all. The Rooks County Historical Museum will also host a Cowboy Santa photo shoot with April’s Imagination Photography, so spend the afternoon with them. See you there!
