The community extends sympathy to the Mark Kollman family, Teresa Webb Terpening family and the Carl Eugene Wiltfong family. Mark attended grade school at Woodston and graduated from Stockton with class of 1970. Teresa graduated from Woodston with class of 1967. Carl Eugene is the father of Doug Wiltfong who is the caretaker of the Woodston Cemetery and township areas.

I left early Friday, August 6, and attended the Abilene Central Kansas Free Fair to see my great-nieces, Kolbie and Jordan Bartlett, exhibit their market steers and heifers. There were 38 market steers in the show. Jordan’s crossbred steer placed 2nd in the class and Kolbie’s received a red. Kolbie’s heifer was Reserved Champion commercial heifer and Jordan’s received a blue. Jordan was 2nd place in Intermediate Showmanship. I visited my brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Melva Stillwagon, at Bennington in the afternoon and returned to attend the rodeo with my sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Delmar Iseli, of Marion. Abilene had the best rodeo clown, Dusty Myers, a sensational PRCA clown since 2016 and 2nd generation clown family. The herd of Longhorn cattle from old Abilene town took part in the rodeo.

Monday, August 9, was a hot, sweltering day to take exhibits to the Rooks County Free Fair. My chickens did not lay one egg that day but we had some relief in getting .80 rain plus a little hail and wind early Tuesday morning. Thursday evening a storm brewed up with rain and hail in the eastern part of the county; it rained at the fair but we didn’t receive a shower until Friday morning.

Clara Mae Riffel gained a great-granddaughter this week on the birth of Willow Grace to Amanda and Daniel Riffel.

Sunday, August 8, Kirby Mullen rang the bell and welcomed members and guests to morning worship. This was a special Sunday celebrating Darel Boston’s 85th birthday. We sang “Happy Birthday” to Darel to open the service. Kirby Mullen offered the opening prayer. Darel brought a friend, Allen Kindall of Norton as a guest. Opening hymn was “Heavenly Sunshine” with accompanist Peggy Mullen. Darel read a tribute he had written for his older sister, Wanda, who had passed away 20 years ago on his birthday. The Prayer hymn was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” Names on the prayer list are Rhonda Gibson, Jim and Carol Black, Auston Hayes, Betty Kirchhoff, Gib Sears, and Kirby Mullen. The “Lord’s Prayer” was recited in unison. The Communion hymn was “How Deep The Father’s Love For Us.” Kirby and Steven Melton served communion. Darel read scripture from Acts 5, verse 12 plus. His message was on “Prayer and Healing.” Sin can often be related to sickness, but sickness is not just a consequence of sin. Jesus and the disciples were known for their healing, and people would arrange for them to even cast a shadow on them hoping for healing. Trust God and ask for healing. The closing hymn was “Count Your Blessings.” There were 10 in attendance for worship, and are reminded of the verse, “When one or two are gathered in His name.” We have room and welcome you to join us.

The Cedar Christian Church began Sunday, August 15 with Kirby Mullen ringing the Church Bell to welcome the morning worship service. Opening hymn was “In The Service Of The King” played by Peggy Mullen. Darel Boston led prayers for Rhonda Gibson, Jim Tinsley, Norma Sharp, Carolyn Verhage, Gib Sears, Terry Haug and the Kent Bates family. Scripture reading was

Acts 5 starting with verse 17 and Darel’s message was taken from this passage. Peter and the disciples were jailed for preaching about Jesus and they were freed by an angel and told to continue at the Temple. The people accepted their teaching and the authorities could not control them. Hymns were “The Ninety and Nine” and “I Gave My Life For Thee”. Kirby and Steven Melton served communion. The “Lord’s Prayer” was recited in unison. Our special music was a selection by Caden Enfield on the piano titled “I Have Faith”. Closing hymn was “When Morning Gilds The Skies”. Trevan and Caden Enfield of Norton and great grandsons of Darel Boston were guests. We remind everyone of the Ice Cream Social to be held next Sunday evening at 7 PM in the Cedar City Park. Roger Cooper will have the entertainment. Just come and enjoy the evening. There will be plenty for everyone.
