On Monday, July 5th, Dan Melton brought Steve’s Ford Ranger pickup back to the farm. Dan’s daughter, Daniele, and roommate, Catlin, had borrwed it but both recently purchased vehicles. Dan came to spend time digging musk thistle and also helped Terry Odle unload a couple tractors. Michele Melton came in the evening and they returned to Walton after supper.

On Tuesday, July 6th, I drove to Lucas and purchased their famous “ring” bologna. I stopped to visit my sister-in-law, Melva Stillwagon, at Bennington. My brother, Dale, was hauling wheat and Melva reported he was finally getting weary of wheat harvest! I drove on to Wichita to granddaughter, Daniele’s, and we planted flowers and I delivered her favorite banana nut bread and a garden lunch. I spent the night at Walton at Dan and Michele’s and the trains didn’t interrupt my sleep. They will be celebrating their anniversary on July 9th, so I gave them a hanging basket.

On Wednesday the 7th, I went to Marion to see my sister, Nadine Iseli, and shopped in her antique business and give her my farm eggs. Combines were still running in that area but wheat looked really dull colored and waterfilled muddy tracks could be seen from recent heavy rains. On my way home, I had time to stop in Salina for a visit with the chiropractor. Steve said we had a .10 to .15 shower on Tuesday afternoon. We had lots of thunder early Friday morning and only a slight shower.

Sunday, July 11, Cedar Christian Church had Dale Gager of Plainville as the speaker. Dale spoke on “God’s Grace and Gifts.” Those gifts are: Life, The gift to us of Jesus, Love, Forgiveness, Salvation, Hope, Peace, Joy, Grace, Mercy, Comfort and Eternal Life. The scripture reading was from Chapter 3 of Lamentations. Special music was, “Beyond The Sunset” and the closing hymn was, “Amazing Grace.” Darel Boston will be with us next Sunday.
