First Christian Church of Plainville
How big is your God? If you were asked that question just out of the blue you may very well say something like, “I serve a very big God. He can do anything.” The question then would be, how is that big God impacting your life? How is that big God impacting your community?
The fact is, we tend to put God in a box. Some put their God in a small box. They really don’t believe they can do much of anything. They have no real talents, or don’t have much money, or don’t evangelize much because they don’t feel comfortable.
Some put their God in medium box. They do a lot of good things including ministering in the church and in their community. They might tithe to their church and even give some beyond that. But they don’t really get too far out of their comfort zones.
So, we ask again, how big is your God?
This week’s lesson was from Chapter 11 of The Story. Pastor Brian spoke from 1 Samuel 16 where we see the start of David’s leadership of the Israelites. Saul, in the position of king that the Israelites so badly desired had a good start but didn’t finish well. In fact, we see in Samuel that Saul even tries to kill David. But David had a very big God. And David’s actions showed he believed that his God was so big he couldn’t keep him in a box.
David, like so many other great leaders we have talked about so far, had humble beginnings and never pictured themselves as great leaders. But just as God told Samuel when selecting David as the anointed one from the family of Jesse, God does not see the exterior. God sees the heart. And David had the right heart.
Did you know that you are also one of God’s anointed? You have been anointed by the Holy Spirit if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You can do anything. When you doubt yourself remember that our God is bigger than you can even imagine, and he is telling you to “Do” and then watch what I (God) can do.
And isn’t that the lesson of Easter? God is bigger than we can imagine. Pray, read, and talk. How can we use this time, as chaotic as it is, to take God out of the box. God can use you if you will just let Him.
First Christian Church in Plainville will continue to offer online services through You Tube and Facebook until we can once again meet in person as a church body. Pray hard!
