* Walter Fleming practically demolished his semi trailer truck and sustained a severe ear injury as the result of an accident on Highway 183. Walter had been hauling fifteen head of fat heifer when the cattle shifted causing the truck to swerve on the slick road. It went onto the soft shoulder and toppled over into a deep ditch. The windshield popped, but Walter did not realize that a piece of glass had struck him until he found himself standing on the highway holding his ear on. It took over 50 stitches to get it back in place.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The No. 1 Sweet was a new pool opener in the Arbuckle in Rooks County. A large group of soldiers enroute from Wisconsin to Camp Carson, Colorado had camped overnight at the fairgrounds. Mrs. W. F. Hughes had been elected president of the Sixth District Federation of Women’s Club.

* Elmer LeRoy Hamit, Leland Dale Bartlett, Elik Schilowsky, Roy Martin, Sherman Timmons and John C. Purdy had passed away.

* The marriage vows of Georgia Elaine Riffe and Stephen W. Larson had been solemnized on August 14th at the First Methodist Church. The bride, given in marriage by her a father, wore a floorlength semi-sheath gown of white satin.

* Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fry had received word that their son, A2-c Harvey J. Fry had arrived in Turkey.

* Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fetterolf and son had returned to Long Beach, Calif. after a month-long leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fetterolf, Sr. Dick had received his discharge in August and then had re-enlisted in the Navy for another six years.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were frying chickens for 33¢ a pound, a pound tin of Folgers coffee for 75¢, Good Value red beans, chili hot beans, pinto beans and Great Northern Beans for 10¢ a can, and a gallon of apple cider for 79¢. Miss Patricia Mason and John Northup had been married on August 15 at the First Methodist Church in Stockton.
