* The Stockton FFA and the Rooks County 4-Hers had walked off with top honors in the Northwest Kansas Land Judging Contest held in Norton. Eldon Kriley, Marvin Kriley, Myron Knight and Bobby Atkisson were the members of the winning FFA Team with Eldon taking high individual honors. Rooks County 4-Hers made up the top three teams in the 4-H division. Kenton Miller, Alton Hazen, Bruce Carpenter and Richard Eggers were the members of the first place team. Tony McReynolds, Kerry Maddy, Rodney Carsten and Ted Odle were the second place team. Ronnie Keirns, Mark LeSage, Dennis Doty and Phillip Probasco made up the third place team. Kenton Miller placed first individually with Kerry Maddy placing second.

* Paul Lee Ballinger had been awarded a certificate, satin jacket, badge and a pin for being named as “Outstanding News Boy” by the Inland Daily Press Association on recommendation of his work as a carrier-salesman for the Hays Daily News in Stockton.

* As We Think It: It is not a bit too early to think about doing your Christmas shopping, but be sure to do it with your hometown merchants.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: Franklin Veverka is now able to do some farm work after his long siege of sleeping sickness. We have not had a killing frost to get the milo in condition for combining. It was reported a doe deer was struck by a car near the Stockton airfield Sunday night. They said a buck deer had to be run off the road after the doe was struck. He didn’t want to leave.

* On sale at Boyd & Conn Supermarket were Whitman’s chocolates for 29¢ a box, Jiff buttermilk biscuit mix for 10¢ a package, six cans of Heinz meat soups for $1,00, and Kraft Velveeta cheese for 89¢ a two-pound box.

* Lorna J. Webster became the bride of Terrill Granger on September 5th at the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton. The bride’s gown was peau de soire. She carried a bouquet of Tropicana roses.

* The marriage of Merena Hollingshead and David Lee Rogers was held on September 24th at the St. Thomas Church in Stockton. The bride, whose father escorted her down the aisle, was lovely in a floor length gown of white peau de soire. The bride carried out the theme of old, new, borrowed, blue and a six pence in her shoe.

* Mrs. Gladys McClellan had entertained at dinner to honor the birth anniversary of her daughter, Mrs. L. B. Waller. The others present were Mr. Waller, Bill, Becky and Brad, and Miss Chloris Lowry.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies, Walt Disney’s “A Tiger Walks” and “How to Murder Your Wife” starring Jack Lemmon and Virna Lisi.
